In the Classical Liberal Arts Academy, parents of high school students play a vital but carefully balanced role. As students mature, they are expected to take greater ownership of their academic work, developing independence, responsibility, and discipline in their studies. Parents should provide encouragement, help their children manage time effectively, and maintain oversight of general progress using the Study Center's reports and activity tools.
However, it is essential for parents to avoid becoming over-involved in academic matters. One of the most common obstacles to success in classical Catholic studies at home is parental over-ambition—taking on too much, setting unrealistic expectations, or attempting to control the learning process in ways that create tension or burnout.
The greatest success in CLAA studies is found in homes where parents remain focused on their irreplaceable role as parents: providing a stable, supportive environment, ensuring prayer and family life remain intact, and wisely entrusting academic matters to the curriculum and CLAA staff. The Academy offers detailed lesson plans, automated grading, and professional support so that parents do not need to become the primary teachers of high school content.
In short, parents are called to guide, support, and oversee—not to replace the curriculum or carry the burden alone. CLAA was built to support families in this mission.
