In the CLAA program, “instructional time” refers specifically to the amount of time students spend actively engaged with course activities inside the Study Center. This is not a general estimate of study time. Only time recorded through actual interaction with course lessons, quizzes, assignments, and other structured activities in the Study Center is automatically counted.
What Instructional Time Includes
- Time actively spent within the Study Center working on course lessons and assessments.
- Time logged while students interact directly with CLAA’s online instructional content.
- Any additional verified instructional activities entered manually, such as private tutoring sessions or Studium live class meetings.
What Instructional Time Does Not Include
- Time students spend reading printed or digital texts outside the Study Center.
- Time spent memorizing, completing exercises on paper, or engaging in other offline study activities.
- Breaks, transitions, or any unlogged time.
Manual Additions
- Instructional time from private tutoring sessions or Studium live classes can be added manually to a student’s total instructional time.
- This allows transcripts to reflect all structured learning under CLAA instruction, not just self-paced online study.
- These additions are recorded separately from automated tracking.
Why This Matters
- Instructional time is an objective and verifiable measure of how much time a student has spent engaged in formal, structured learning activities.
- It provides a clear record for progress tracking, transcripts, and reporting to colleges or accrediting agencies.
- By distinguishing between tracked instructional time and untracked independent study, CLAA maintains academic transparency and accountability.
Summary
Instructional time reflects actual time spent working within the Study Center or participating in official CLAA instructional sessions. Independent reading or study outside of these structured activities is valuable but not automatically counted toward instructional time. This ensures that transcript records are accurate and based on verified engagement.
