The Classical Liberal Arts Academy (CLAA) provides several tools to help parents track student progress clearly and accurately. Because the program is mastery-based, the goal is not to count hours but to make sure students are consistently moving forward through lessons, assessments, and courses.
1. Use the Completed Tasks Report
The primary tool for daily progress tracking is the “Completed Tasks” report in the Study Center.
- Green indicates tasks completed recently
- Yellow/Orange indicates tasks completed 1–2 weeks ago
- Red indicates no recent activity for over 2 weeks
Keeping this report mostly green is the simplest way to ensure steady study habits across all subjects. If a subject is turning orange or red, it likely needs more regular attention.
2. Check Lesson and Assessment Records
Every completed lesson and assessment is logged in the system. Parents can see:
- Lesson completion dates
- Quiz and assessment scores
- Number of attempts on each assessment
- Overall progress through each course
This ensures students are not simply moving through content but demonstrating mastery at each step.
3. Monitor Course Enrollment and Progress Bars
Each course has a visible progress bar on the “My Courses” page:
- The bar shows how many lessons are completed in a course
- Parents can see which courses are active and how far the student has advanced
- Idle or incomplete courses can be identified at a glance
This allows parents to oversee progress across multiple courses simultaneously.
4. Review Moodle Gradebooks
Every course in the CLAA Moodle Study Center has a built-in gradebook that records:
- Scores for each lesson, quiz, and assignment
- Total course grade (based on completed work)
- Weighting of different activities, if applicable
- A detailed breakdown of performance over time
Parents can access each course’s gradebook from the “My Courses” page. This provides an organized, item-by-item record of what has been completed and how well the student performed. Gradebooks are updated automatically as students work through their lessons.
5. View Reports and Records
The CLAA system maintains:
- Detailed lesson completion history
- Assessment results and attempt history
- Certificates earned for completed courses
- Cumulative activity logs for each student
These records allow parents to see both short-term activity and long-term academic growth.
6. Use Weekly Progress Reviews
Parents are encouraged to hold a short weekly review session to:
- Check the Completed Tasks report
- Open Moodle gradebooks for key courses
- Review lesson scores, assessments, and progress bars
- Identify subjects that need more attention or pacing adjustments
This practice helps keep students accountable and ensures balance across all their studies.
7. Certificates and Diploma Tracking
As students complete courses, they earn official certificates marking their academic achievements. Parents can:
- Track earned subject certificates
- Review progress toward grade-level and diploma requirements
- Ensure students are completing both classical and modern academic subjects
Summary
- Use the Completed Tasks report for daily activity tracking.
- Check lesson and assessment records to monitor mastery.
- Watch course progress bars to get a quick overview of activity.
- Open Moodle gradebooks for detailed, item-by-item records of performance.
- Conduct weekly progress reviews to keep studies balanced.
- Use certificates and official records to track long-term achievement.
These tools together give parents a complete picture of student progress in the CLAA curriculum.
